Hello, world!

As you can probably maybe tell from the title of this post, I’m a software developer! Except, I’m not…

Allow me to explain.

When I first meet someone and I’m introducing myself (especially in a professional setting), I probably say something along the lines of: “Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m a software developer.” Or maybe this person is asking me the good ol’ “What do you do?” To which my answer would also be “Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m a software developer.”

But I’d really like to think of myself as more than just my 9-5.

Don’t get me wrong, I think I’m working in a super cool field and I generally enjoy my work and am very cognizant of how privileged I am to be doing the work I do compared to most other humans on this Earth. But that being said, I do so much more than write code all day. I have so many interests and passions that I find it a little off-putting to define or constrain myself by my job or even by my career.

So really I want to use this space as a place where I can explore and share my interests and passions outside of work. Some of the things I anticipate writing about will probably be Arabic musicbooks I’m reading and podcasts I’m listening to, skin care, ethical and sustainable fashion, minimalism, my journey as a software developer, learning to play oud, my ongoing efforts to actually try to make running a normal part of my life, and so much more!

As you can see, I really don’t have any plans to make this platform limited to any one topic. I just want it to be a space where I can write freely about whatever I feel like writing about.

And so with that, I hope to see you in my next post!
